The leather we work with
Rocado Shell Cordovan
One of the finest and rarest natural leathers in the world, cut from the shell found in the hindquarters of a horsehide — a dense, singular layer of fibrous tissue and cartilage.
It is exceptionally strong, smooth to the touch, with a deep and luxurious glow. With use it does not crease into the usual fine lines; it forms beautiful natural ripples of its own instead.
Best of all, shell cordovan grows more beautiful over the years, taking on a patina of its own that gives every piece its own character.
Rocado is an Italian tannery in Tuscany that has specialised in shell cordovan for more than thirty years.
Tempesti
For our pieces we chose Italian Tempesti leather, from one of the long-established tanneries of Tuscany, specialising in vegetable-tanned leather since 1946.
The hide is tanned with natural tannins by a slow, traditional method that gives it a natural character and a distinctive hand while keeping its strength and quality. With time and long use the leather loses none of its beauty: its look and its colour develop gradually, and it takes on a natural patina that gives every piece a character of its own, finer with the years.
Il Ponte
We also chose Italian Il Ponte leather, another of the long-established tanneries of Tuscany, vegetable-tanning by a deep-rooted craft tradition. Il Ponte is known worldwide for fine vegetable-tanned leather, and it holds the Gold rating of the Leather Working Group (LWG) in recognition of its standards.
It is tanned with natural tannins in a slow, exacting process that asks for time and a craftsman's experience, and that gives the leather a natural hand, durability and a beauty that lasts. With time and use it develops gradually and takes on a natural patina, giving each piece deeper colour and more character, more beautiful with the years.
This is not simply a fine leather — it is a leather that lives with you and grows more beautiful with time.
